Sleep Apnea & Insulin Resistance

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night's sleep, you might have sleep apnea. The main types of sleep apnea are: Obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when throat muscles relax. Obesity, age and neck size are among the risk factors for sleep apnea. Common sleep apnea symptoms include:

  • Waking up with a very sore or dry throat.

  • Loud snoring.

  • Occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation.

  • Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day.

  • Sleepiness while driving.

  • Morning headaches.

  • Restless sleep.

  • Forgetfulness, mood changes, and a decreased interest in sex.
